About this book
Bahenabai Ratnakarpant Pathak was a disciple of Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj. She is believed to have lived from 1628 to 1700. At the age of three, she was married to Ratnakarpant Pathak, a thirty-year-old widower. From the age of eight, she endured a difficult and painful life of wandering alongside her parents, brother, and husband.
Devotion to Pandurang and unwavering faith in Sant Tukaram Maharaj were the guiding principles of her life. She was believed to possess knowledge of her thirteen previous births and had a deep yearning for spiritual realization. With the grace of her spiritual master, she composed approximately 700–725 abhangas (devotional verses).
She eventually attained samadhi at Shiur, in Vaijapur taluka. The life journey of Sant Bahenabai is extraordinary and inspiring, reflecting an unwavering commitment to the path of devotion.
Dr. Shrutishree Wadgabaḷkar’s novel Devalasi Sant Bahenabai offers a beautiful glimpse into this remarkable journey. It is a book that everyone should experience at least once.
