About this book
Uddhavrao Patil, one of the founding members of the Peasants and Workers Party (She takari Kamgar Paksha), provided the party with its ideological foundation and established its roots in the Marathwada region. However, he did not remain merely a regional leader. His intelligence, unwavering commitment to his ideals, and deep concern for the farming community made him a powerful advocate for farmers' issues.
Through his speeches in the Legislative Assembly, Parliament, and public meetings, where he consistently championed the concerns of farmers, he captivated audiences with his exceptional oratory. He became popular among members of all political parties, and before long, he had emerged as one of the foremost political leaders in Maharashtra.
It would not be an exaggeration to describe him as a leader who had virtually no personal enemies. He never indulged in personal animosity; instead, he presented his arguments by focusing on the issues themselves, without allowing party affiliation or political posturing to overshadow the substance of the discussion.
Unfortunately, his speeches and writings were not preserved in an organised form and, in fact, remain largely unavailable even today. His contributions received some recognition only in the years following his death, rather than during his lifetime.
Against this background, this book represents an attempt to create a portrait of Uddhavrao Patil by bringing together as much of his available written material as possible, along with commemorative articles and personal recollections about him.
