About this book
Literary movements and genres take shape around certain fundamental principles. The structural elements of a literary work are embedded within the text itself, and all these elements need to be understood from a specific theoretical perspective. This makes it essential to study the theoretical purpose underlying a literary work before engaging with and appreciating the work itself.
Without recognising literary movements and genres, it would be impossible to study the structure, characteristics, form, concepts and traditions of literary works. When reading a literary work, readers are conscious, either explicitly or implicitly, of the literary movement to which it belongs and the genre it represents. In other words, readers approach and interpret literature with an awareness of its movements and genres.
Keeping this perspective in mind, the present edited volume has been organised around theoretical discussions and the critical examination of literary works.
