About this book
One of the reasons for the growing intensity of discord in relationships between men and women is that they are compelled to live together. When people are forced to stay together despite their differences, the discord may not be felt as strongly if they maintain some distance and allow each other a little personal space. However, the more incompatible elements are brought together and the closer they come within each other's ‘force fields’, the more their differences and conflicts intensify. Eventually, they reach a point where the tension erupts.
Living together and experiencing constant, unwanted friction are two different things.
I believe that most relationships in our society are examples of such unwanted friction. If we were to classify friction into two types—unwanted friction and willing or voluntary friction—we would find that unwanted friction is far more prevalent. Such discord gives rise to constant conflicts and tensions, and children become its victims. These experiences influence the relationships children form in the future—with men and women, with other individuals, and within society.
Once a relationship between a man and a woman is damaged, its adverse effects spread like radiation or a viral infection. They continue to multiply and spread, much like a contagious disease. The impact and infection of such a troubled relationship affect everyone connected to the people involved. Gradually, even the relationships surrounding them begin to deteriorate in subtle ways. Thus, individual relationships can become a contributing factor in the deterioration of society as a whole.
