About this book
If literature is the confluence of pain and creative talent, then Andakol, the autobiography of Kisan Chavan, a young man from the Pardhi community, deserves to be recognised as an outstanding literary creation. This work is like a storm that spreads far and wide across the landscape of Marathi literature.
Living a life burdened with inherited suffering, being denied recognition as a human being, and carrying the stigma of being branded a criminal by birth is never easy. Nor is it easy to rebel against the agonies that have taken root in a life without a courtyard of one's own, constantly deepening wounds and celebrating one's suffering at every moment. To sound the trumpet of rebellion and raise a relentless cry of resistance with every breath requires extraordinary courage.
Kisan Chavan has continuously sounded a trumpet of resistance, keeping the struggle alive both for himself and for the faceless community around him. It is from the defiant, battle-charged sound of this trumpet that his autobiography has emerged.
This is an autobiography that confronts the established system, tears away its deceptive façade, and restores to human beings a face filled with dignity and self-respect. In my view, it deserves to break through the conventional boundaries of Marathi literature and establish a new milestone.
I also hope that Andakol, a work that has emerged straight from the depths of the author's heart, will transform the very face of Marathi literature.
