About this book
“I decided that I would socially ostracise society itself! During the initial days of putting this thought into practice, it felt as though I had acquired a completely different pair of glasses through which to view the world around me. I would not allow myself to become emotionally attached to anything or anyone, nor would I depend on anybody for my happiness or sorrow. Above all, I would never tell anyone that I had socially ostracised society. After all, how could I possibly tell everyone? And whom would I tell?
There are ways of making an announcement to society—public proclamations, circulars, decrees, posters and pamphlets. But I did not want to change anything in my outward behaviour or speech. Whatever change I wanted to bring about was to be entirely within me—so discreet that not even one ear would hear what the other had to say!
And so, I lived more or less this way throughout my life. The amusing part of socially ostracising society was that it never prevented me from exchanging essential services, facilities or work with society. I managed to maintain this arrangement for almost my entire life. I had decided that my secret—that I had socially ostracised society—would remain undisclosed to anyone until the very end of my life…”
