Paay Nasleli Mansa—Poetry Offering a Profound, Rich and Universal Vision

Darshana Kolge’s review examines Dr Sudhir Rajaram Devre’s Paay Nasleli Mansa, a poetry collection published by Shabdalaya. Its exploration of human existence, incompleteness, struggle, nature and the organic use of the Ahirani language gives the collection a distinctive place in contemporary Marathi poetry.

Paay Nasleli Mansa by Dr Sudhir Rajaram Devre is a thought-provoking poetry collection published by Shabdalaya Prakashan, Shrirampur. In her article, “Poetry Offering a Universal Vision,” Darshana Kolge examines the collection’s themes, language, imagery and distinctive understanding of human life.

The poems engage with natural, social and existential dimensions of human experience. Although every poem may not reveal its complete meaning immediately, the collection stimulates emotion, reflection and deeper engagement from the reader.

A significant feature of the collection is its natural use of the Ahirani language. Ahirani is not introduced artificially as a stylistic device; it emerges organically from the poet’s linguistic and cultural roots. This gives the poems a regional identity while connecting them with universal human experiences.

Forests, trees, soil, water, deserts and the limitless sky repeatedly appear as important images. Nature is more than a decorative background—it becomes a witness to human existence and a space in which readers are encouraged to examine their own sense of being.

The poem Tankana Aawaz Nahi! portrays ordinary people who remain unseen and unheard despite being present within society. Its images of social noise, public neglect and constant engagement with mobile phones offer a sharp observation of contemporary indifference.

The collection is deliberately organised into three sections: Paay Badalta Yet Nahit, Pavsat Paay Pasrun and Asaman Payanchya Kavita. This structure indicates a carefully developed poetic journey. The poem about an oasis suggests that even within struggle and uncertainty, the possibility of shade, water, hope and renewal continues to exist.

Apurna Dehanchya Ayushyat! sensitively addresses physical incompleteness, social barriers and the everyday battles faced by people whose bodies do not conform to conventional expectations. Familiar expressions associated with standing on one’s feet are used to raise deeper questions about dignity, independence and social inclusion.

The poems speak about uncertainty, incompleteness and the apparent meaninglessness of human existence while also expressing the determination to continue moving forward. They depart from conventional poetic patterns and generate questions ranging from the physical body to broader universal existence.

Published by Shabdalaya, Paay Nasleli Mansa represents an important meeting point between contemporary Marathi poetry, Ahirani linguistic identity and socially engaged existential thought. This review is a valuable addition to Shabdalaya’s Books.
