About this book
The region is drought-prone, and water is scarce. Thousands of difficulties stand in the way. Yet, the people of Mandesh live with courage and determination, never giving up in the face of adversity. They do not even entertain the desperate thought of suicide.
Just like the people of this region, there is a climbing plant called Daushad. It survives just as they do, growing along stream banks, on rocks, and even in sandy soil without water. No matter how severe the drought, it never gives up or loses its vigour. It continues to thrive and flourish, growing with thick vines, shoots, clusters, and tendrils.
The plant bears red flowers and round, oval-shaped fruits. It provides shade to everyone. In the scorching summer heat, goats and sheep gather beneath its shade along stream banks and survive by feeding on its leaves.
Such is this remarkable plant that finds its way through adversity. Its scientific name is Combretum albidum G. Don. It is known by different names in different regions, such as Davshira and Piluki. In our region, we call it Daushad.
This plant teaches us that no matter how many difficulties or adverse circumstances we encounter, we must never lose courage. We have taken inspiration from this very plant and made it our ideal.
