About this book
Neither Indian society nor any other society in the world is perfect in the true sense of the word. The social systems created by society itself have condemned many people to lives of extreme hardship and misfortune. Their lives are very different from those of people who follow the familiar routines of everyday existence.
Among them are sex workers, abandoned and differently abled people, individuals living with mental illnesses, and others who have been rejected by society in various ways. They are human beings, yet they are often denied humane treatment. Consequently, the worlds they inhabit remain distinct, neglected and largely overlooked.
There are, however, certain organisations and compassionate individuals who treat these marginalised people with humanity and dedicate their physical, emotional and financial resources to their welfare. These social workers, too, inhabit a world of their own, distinct from that of the people they serve.
In Niral Jag Nirali Manas, Dr. Sunilkumar Lavate, a compassionate social worker who understands and represents both these worlds, brings their lives and experiences into the spotlight through his powerful writing. This book will undoubtedly awaken the conscience and sense of social responsibility of socially sensitive readers.
