दत्ता पाटील लिखित ‘तो राजहंस एक’चा मुंबई विद्यापीठाच्या अभ्यासक्रमात समावेश Datta Patil’s ‘To Rajhans Ek’ Included in the University of Mumbai Curriculum

समकालीन मराठी रंगभूमीवरील संवेदनशील आणि सामाजिक भान असलेल्या नाटकांपैकी एक असलेल्या ‘तो राजहंस एक’चा मुंबई विद्यापीठाच्या अभ्यासक्रमात समावेश करण्यात आला आहे. दत्ता पाटील लिखित या नाटकाचे दिग्दर्शन सचिन शिंदे यांनी केले असून, नाटकाचा रंगभूमीवरील प्रवास आणि पुस्तकरूपातील नोंद या दोन्ही दृष्टीने हा सन्मान महत्त्वाचा आहे. या निवडीची दखल ‘आपलं महानगर’च्या नाशिक आवृत्तीने २७ जून २०२५ रोजी “दत्ता पाटील लिखित नाटकाचा असाही गौरव” या उपशीर्षकासह घेतली.

‘तो राजहंस एक’ ग्रामीण आणि शेतकरी समाजातील मानसिक आरोग्याच्या प्रश्नांवर भाष्य करते. बदलत्या कृषिव्यवस्थेत तरुण शेतकऱ्यांसमोर उभ्या राहणाऱ्या आर्थिक, सामाजिक आणि भावनिक अडचणी, विवाहासंबंधीचे प्रश्न, आत्मसन्मान आणि मानसिक ताण यांना नाटक केंद्रस्थानी आणते. ग्रामीण भागात मानसिक आजारांविषयी असलेले मौन दूर करून संवाद आणि जनजागृती निर्माण करण्याचा प्रयत्न या नाट्यकृतीतून केला आहे.

या नाटकाची निर्मिती मानसिक आरोग्याविषयी जनजागृती करणाऱ्या ‘मानरंग’ उपक्रमातून झाली. वास्तववादी कथन, संवेदनशील व्यक्तिरेखा आणि सामाजिक प्रश्नांची प्रभावी रंगमंचीय मांडणी यांमुळे नाटकाला प्रेक्षक व समीक्षकांकडून प्रतिसाद मिळाला. राष्ट्रीय नाट्य विद्यालयाच्या भारत रंग महोत्सवात नाटकाचे सादरीकरण झाले असून दिल्लीतील प्रयोगातून ते महाराष्ट्राबाहेरील रसिकांपर्यंतही पोहोचले. उपलब्ध वृत्तांनुसार, नाटकात तरुण शेतकरी आणि त्याच्या कुटुंबाच्या जगण्यातील संघर्षाला मानसिक आरोग्याच्या व्यापक संदर्भात मांडले आहे.

शब्दालय प्रकाशनाने ‘तो राजहंस एक’ला पुस्तकरूप देऊन या रंगकृतीचा स्थायी साहित्यिक दस्तऐवज वाचक, विद्यार्थी, अभ्यासक आणि रंगकर्मींसाठी उपलब्ध करून दिला. नाटकाचा मुंबई विद्यापीठाच्या अभ्यासक्रमात समावेश झाल्यामुळे समकालीन मराठी नाट्यलेखन, ग्रामीण समाजजीवन आणि मानसिक आरोग्य यांचा अभ्यास करणाऱ्या विद्यार्थ्यांना एक महत्त्वपूर्ण संदर्भग्रंथ प्राप्त झाला आहे.

रंगभूमीवरील सादरीकरणापासून विद्यापीठीय अभ्यासक्रमापर्यंतचा ‘तो राजहंस एक’चा प्रवास दत्ता पाटील यांच्या लेखनाचा, सचिन शिंदे यांच्या दिग्दर्शनाचा आणि संपूर्ण नाट्यसंघाच्या कार्याचा गौरव आहे. दर्जेदार मराठी नाट्यसाहित्य प्रकाशित आणि जतन करण्याच्या शब्दालयच्या वाटचालीतील ही एक उल्लेखनीय शैक्षणिक उपलब्धी आहे.

‘To Rajhans Ek’, recognised as a socially engaged work of contemporary Marathi theatre, has been included in the University of Mumbai curriculum. Written by Datta Patil and directed by Sachin Shinde, the play has built a notable journey across both the stage and the printed page. Aapla Mahanagar’s Nashik edition reported this achievement on 27 June 2025 under a headline celebrating the play’s inclusion in the university syllabus.

The play explores mental health within rural and farming communities. It brings attention to the economic, social and emotional pressures faced by young farmers, including marriage-related concerns, dignity, isolation and psychological distress. By addressing subjects that are often left unspoken in rural society, the production seeks to encourage awareness and meaningful public conversation about mental wellbeing.

‘To Rajhans Ek’ emerged from the ‘Manarang’ initiative, which uses theatre to create awareness about mental health. Its realistic storytelling, sensitive characters and grounded treatment of social concerns have earned audience and critical attention. The play was also presented at the National School of Drama’s Bharat Rang Mahotsav in Delhi, carrying its account of agrarian life and mental health beyond Maharashtra.

Shabdalay Prakashan preserved the work in book form, making the play available to readers, students, researchers and theatre practitioners as a lasting literary document. Its inclusion in the University of Mumbai curriculum now provides students with an important text for studying contemporary Marathi drama, rural society and representations of mental health.

The journey of ‘To Rajhans Ek’ from live performance to university study celebrates Datta Patil’s writing, Sachin Shinde’s direction and the contribution of the entire theatre team. It also represents a significant academic milestone in Shabdalay’s continuing commitment to publishing and preserving meaningful Marathi dramatic literature.
