सुमती लांडे यांनी सुरू केलेल्या ग्रंथविक्री केंद्राच्या माध्यमातून पुस्तकविक्रीबरोबर साहित्यविषयक कार्यक्रम, ग्रंथप्रदर्शने आणि वाचकांशी थेट संवाद साधण्याचे उपक्रम राबविण्यात आले. शहर आणि ग्रामीण भागातील साहित्यिक वातावरणाला जोडण्याची ही दिशा शब्दालयच्या कार्याचे वैशिष्ट्य ठरली.

In Badaltya Vastavacha Sanman, writer Satish Kalsekar examines the literary and cultural journey of Shabdalay Prakashan. The article was published after Shabdalay received the V. P. Bhagwat Memorial Award, presented by the Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangh to recognise important work in Marathi publishing.
Shabdalay’s contribution extends beyond publishing individual books. The organisation helped connect writers, readers and literary activities from rural Maharashtra with the wider Marathi literary world. At a time when cultural activity was expanding beyond Pune, Mumbai and Nagpur to cities such as Nashik, Kolhapur and Aurangabad, Shabdalay offered an important publishing platform for this changing literary reality.
Through the book-distribution centre established by Sumati Lande, Shabdalay organised literary programmes, book exhibitions and direct interactions with readers. This approach created an effective link between publishing, bookselling and community-based literary engagement.
The article refers to Shabdalay’s association with significant writers including Ranganath Pathare, Bhau Padhye, Vilas Sarang, Rajan Khan and Shafaat Khan. By publishing poetry, short stories, novels, plays, creative prose and writing based on modern and historical subjects, Shabdalay brought diverse literary voices before Marathi readers.
Shabdalay’s Diwali annual had previously received the Ratnakar Desai memorial recognition from the Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh. The subsequent V. P. Bhagwat Memorial Award became another proud acknowledgement of the publication house’s literary vision and sustained contribution.
