About this book
We live for certain happy and inspiring moments, and for the people who bring them into our lives. We live for the joy of audiences who come to the theatre to forget, for a while, the joys and sorrows of everyday life. For those theatre lovers who stand in queues for hours to buy tickets, we must learn to forget our own wounds.
Sometimes, a railway controller arranges an extra train for an artist, and the driver races at incredible speed, simply to experience the joy of getting the artist to their hometown in time for the performance.
On another occasion, when a newspaper boy at a railway station spots the name of The Goa Hindu Association displayed on a train compartment carrying a theatre troupe on tour, he is reminded of the play Raigadala Jevha Jaag Yete. Overcome with excitement, he distributes all the newspapers he has in his hands to the artists without asking for payment, then runs along the platform, delighted with his own spontaneous gesture.
It is for this pure joy and this selfless love, Dnyanesh, that I tell you to pursue this very profession.
