Rangdevata is a collection edited by Shri V. S. Khandekar, featuring selected excerpts from celebrated plays by ten important Marathi playwrights, ranging from the late Annasaheb Kirloskar to V. V. Shirwadkar.

These excerpts offer a glimpse into the gradual evolution of Marathi playwriting and the development of its literary and dramatic traditions. Today, Marathi theatre appears to be facing a shortage of all three essential elements that contribute to its glory: actors, playwrights, and theatres. Until this unfavourable situation changes, Marathi theatre must continue to draw sustenance from the splendour of its past.

The book Rangdevata offers readers, even if only partially, a glimpse of that glorious theatrical heritage. It is also intended to inspire them to undertake a comprehensive study of the selected dramatic works that contributed to this rich tradition.
