Krishnakathchya Kavita—Authentic Poetic Portraits of Village Life

Published by Shabdalay Prakashan, Suresh Mohite’s Krishnakathchya Kavita presents 60 short poems portraying rural life, relationships, memories and changing human values along the Krishna River. Its simple, flowing and visual language evokes the authentic experiences and emotional character of village life.

Krishnakathchya Kavita, written by Suresh Mohite and published by Shabdalay Prakashan, Shrirampur, is a collection of 60 short Marathi poems. The newspaper article introduces the collection as an authentic poetic representation of rural life along the Krishna River.

Because the poet spent his childhood in a rural environment, his observations of village life and its people appear naturally throughout the collection. His poems portray a mother working in the sugarcane fields, childhood memories awakened while leaving the village and the emotional connection between people and their native landscape.

The collection draws attention to life in settlements beyond the traditional village boundary. Although the village and its outlying communities may appear separated, they remain connected through their soil, labour, suffering, hope and shared humanity. The poems sensitively capture hardship and marginalisation while preserving faith in life.

Several poems explore family relationships and women’s emotional experiences. Memories of a sister, her married life and familiar places such as an old well express affection, separation and sorrow in simple but effective language.

Poems dedicated to “Krishnamai” reveal the poet’s emotional bond with the Krishna River. The river also becomes a metaphor for changing human behaviour, damaged values and social unease. Meaning, feeling and visual imagery combine to present both the beauty and pathos of rural existence.

Published by Shabdalay, this collection brings Marathi rural poetry and the distinctive culture of the Krishna region before readers. Krishnakathchya Kavita reflects Shabdalay’s commitment to supporting Marathi poets and documenting regionally rooted literary experiences.
