About this book
The Poet’s Final Days and The Innocent Eréndira
This book brings together two distinct works. The first consists of memories of a poet’s final days, written by his beloved. The second is an outstanding novella by a writer of international significance in the twentieth century.
The poet is the Russian writer Vladimir Mayakovsky (1893–1930), and the woman who recorded her memories is his beloved, Veronika Polonskaya. These recollections are presented with remarkable simplicity, directness, and emotional restraint.
The novella is by Gabriel García Márquez (born in 1928), a Colombian and Latin American writer who received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1982.
The original works were written in Russian and Spanish, respectively. Ranganath Pathare translated them into Marathi from their English translations.
The underlying intention behind this publication is to share with Marathi readers the pleasure of experiencing outstanding literary works in their own language.
