About this book
Dive Gelele Divas (Days Without Lights) is the first novel by Ranganath Pathare. It is true that the marks of a debut work are visible in the novel. However, what is more significant is that the seeds of the distinctive literary identity he has established as a writer today can also be found throughout this early work.
The novel portrays the period of the Emergency in 1975. The Emergency was one of the most significant and transformative political events in post-independence India. At a time when even many eminent and established Marathi novelists did not feel compelled to interpret this event creatively through fiction, a young and emerging writer like Ranganath Pathare dared to undertake the challenge. This, in itself, reflects the author's sensitivity, sense of responsibility, and deep concern for contemporary developments.
