About this book
New leaves regularly sprout on a growing tree, while many of its older leaves turn yellow and fall away. They gradually detach from their places. These are some of the leaves that have fallen from the tree of my accumulated life experiences.
These pieces were written for Saptarang, the supplement of the Marathi newspaper Sakal. They became so popular that many people came to know me as a writer because of them. This popularity has often made me wonder whether all my writing up to that point had been futile. Clearly, this is an indication of the reach and limitations of our reading culture.
I have also included a few pieces about friends and personal experiences, simply because they did not seem to fit anywhere else. Therefore, even though not every piece in this collection is literally a fallen leaf, the collection as a whole can certainly be described as Nisataleli Pane (Fallen Leaves).
