About this book

The poems in this collection reflect the poet’s world of life experiences and personal understanding. Prof. Sunil Torane’s poetic sensibility has evolved through the experiences of poverty and hardship within his family, as well as the deep emotional bonds he shares with his mother, father and brother. He expresses his observations on life, circumstances and events in simple yet deeply moving language.

Having endured the painful realities of social inequality since childhood, the poet conveys a powerful message through his poem Nati (Relationships): “Break the bonds of religious division and build relationships rooted in humanity.” He encourages readers to overcome destructive thoughts and spread love. By transforming bitter life experiences into thoughtful reflections, he offers a message of wisdom and compassion.

The poet also expresses his profound grief over the untimely passing of the highly respected Kumbhar Guruji, an ideal personality from Mahuli who was deeply loved by the entire village. The pain of this loss finds a deeply emotional and poignant expression in the poem Guruji.

In Aswastha Aahe Hi Dhara (This Earth Is Troubled), the poet reflects on the frightening transformation of the natural world. The steadily heating Earth threatens human life and the environment. Through this poem, he urges humanity to recognise its responsibility and make sincere efforts to protect the planet.

Various human weaknesses, desires and hunger are explored throughout the collection. However, the distinctive quality of these poems lies in the poet’s ability to transform difficult experiences into positive thoughts and express hope in every situation.

The poet hopes that this optimism will find a place in readers’ hearts and inspire them to rise above sorrow, poverty and suffering to embrace a more meaningful life. This, one feels, is the central purpose and lasting impact of the collection.
